The Menstrual Cycle

The menstrual cycle is a monthly series of hormonal and physical changes to the female body in preparation for a possible pregnancy.  It involves coordinated activity between the brain, ovaries, and uterus, all regulated by hormones travelling through the blood. It spans from the first day of a womans’s period to the day before their next one, typically around 28 days.

The menstrual cycle is divided into four main phases:

The Follicular Phase

While the cycle is often described as lasting around 28 days, it’s completely normal for it to be shorter or longer, anywhere from about 23 to 35 days.

Throughout these phases, you may notice different symptoms, energy levels, and moods depending on where you are in your cycle.
